Renaissance
Renaissance
is French for rebirth. Renaissance was an age which artistic social scientific
and political thought in new directions. The renaissance began in Italy,
Florence in the 15th century and then spread to Rome and the rest of
Europe. In the renaissance time there was a lot of trading as it had a lot of
coastlines and brought lots of food and products. The renaissance was much more
than just simply studying the work of ancient scholars. It influenced by
paintings sculptures, and architecture. Paintings became more realistic and
focused less often on religious topics. Rich families became patrons and
commissioned great art. Artists advanced the Renaissance style of showing
nature and depicting the feelings of people. In Britain, there was a flowering
in literature and drama that included the plays of William Shakespeare. Italian city such as Naples, Genoa and Venice
centre of trades between Europe and the Middle East. Arab scholars preserved
the writings of the ancient Greece in their libraries. When the Italian cities
traded with the Arabs, ideas were exchanged along with goods. These ideas,
preserved from the ancient past, served as the basis of the Renaissance. When
the Byzantine Empire fell to Muslim Turks in 1453, many Christian’s scholars
left Greece for Italy.
The
Death of Michelangelo
Michelangelo continued making pieta sculptures. The first
one, begun in 1550 and left unfinished, was meant for his own tomb. He began
the Rondanini Pietà in Milan in 1555, and he was working on it on February 12,
1564 when he took ill. He died six days later in Rome and was buried in
Florence.
