Carol Singing

Christmas carol singing raising money

6th class went to Eyre Square shopping centre in December to raise money to support the GSPCA and their work to prevent cruelty to animals.  We spent many weeks practicing for that day.  Ms  Gohery  and Ms Downes were very kind to conduct the choir. We sang a wide range of Christmas carols.   Caoimhe, Sam and Adam shook buckets and collected money  from all the Christmas shoppers.  We were delighted to raise over €500 for this worthy cause.  We really enjoyed the day and especially  the opportunity to do some Christmas shopping of our own.

Victorious Galway U16 Camogie Team Visit Killeeneen

The Victorious Galway U16 Camogie team visit our school

In December we were delighted to congratulate the All Ireland u16 camogie champions in our school.  One particular team member is a past pupil of our school.  Her name is Carrie Dolan.  She brought the All Ireland cup with her to show all the children.  The whole school went to the G.P. room to hear her advice about practising our camogie at home.  She was very good to sign our jerseys.  Carrie plays in centre forward  for Galway team.

Killeeneen N.S. Book Fair

We held our annual book fair from the 9th – 13th of November. It was held in the G.P. room. Every class in our school got the opportunity to go to the book fair and purchase books. Our class, 6th, got to go down to have a look at the books on offer on Thursday afternoon. There were a variety of books suitable for all ages and abilities. I bought a book called Friend or Foe that cost nine euro. I really enjoy reading.

The Galway Minors Visit Killeeneen.

The successful Galway Minor Team who won the All Ireland Final this year visited our school with the Irish Press Cup on Friday the 2nd of October. Evan Niland, Ian O’Brien, Cian Salmon, Patrick Foley and Shane Bannon are members of Clarinbridge club who were on the Galway panel. Evan Niland and Ian O Brien are past pupils of our school.

Galway had a tough path to the final. They played Kilkenny in the semi-final and won after a replay. They bet Tipperary in the final in Croke Park.

6th Class gave a guard of honour with their hurls in the air while the champions walked in.  Evan spoke and gave us a few words of advice for practising our hurling and camogie at home. The boys were very kind to sign our jerseys and take a few photos with the children in our school.

Garda Cup Shield Champions!

The Football Garda Cup is a 7 a-side football competition that takes place every year in Gort. It was held on the 16th of October this year. A panel of ten represented our school at the tournament on the day. The players were Luke Forde, Peter Monaghan, Luke Clarke, Luke Martyn, Alex Haugh, Ben Lalor, Adam Fitzgerald, Michael Cotter, Colin Counihan and Fabien Fleetwood.

We played Northampton N.S in the first match and won. The second match we unfortunately lost to Kinvara N.S who were the overall winners on the day. We came second in our group so we qualified for the shield semi-final.

We played Ballymanagh N.S. in the shield semi final and we won. Then we went on to play Ballyglass N.S in the final. We won the match comfortably. Peter Monaghan was our captain and he received the cup. We all got medals on the day, we were the shield champions!
